Unisys named as leader in cloud and data center services
Mon, 21st Oct 2019
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Information Services Group (ISG) has named Unisys as one of the global leaders in cloud and data center services.

According to ISG's Provider Lens Private/Hybrid Cloud – Data Center Services and Solutions Archetype Report, Unisys was one of 30 data center oursourcing services providers analysed in terms of how they meet enterprise clients' requirements.

The analysis groups enterprise clients into four archetypes: Traditional, managed services (midsized focus), transformation (large-scale focus), and pioneering.

ISG ranked Unisys as a “Leader” in addressing the requirements of the following two archetypes:

Transformation (Large-scale focus) – Organisations with more generous budgets and preference for an optimised mix of delivery models. They focus on providing IT services to their business units using an as-a-service, utility-based model, with high levels of self-service, automation, orchestration and chargeback.

Managed Services (Mid-sized focus) – Organisations, often with somewhat constrained budgets, willing to transfer greater operational responsibility to a service provider and embrace some transformational elements, such as modest investments in automation and hybrid cloud.

Unisys was also mentioned as a “Noteworthy Provider” in the other two archetype categories:

Pioneering – Organisations seeking to extend their transformation initiatives through deployment of end-to-end software-defined data centers and optimising hybrid-cloud management.

Traditional – Organisations that engage in minimal, selective outsourcing of certain data center and cloud services, mainly to optimize costs.

The report outlines that managed services are evolving as newer technologies take an as-a-service model approach.

“We are proud to have earned ISG's recognition of our cloud and infrastructure services – especially our innovative Unisys CloudForte managed-service offering,” comments Unisys' senior vice president and president of enterprise solutions, Eric Hutto.

“This honor confirms Unisys' position as a leader in helping clients revolutionise their business processes and applying advanced, secure cloud solutions so they can realize the full operational and economic benefits of digital transformation.

The ISG report notes, “Hybrid IT managed services have seen significant growth last year, and we believe that this momentum will continue as enterprise businesses are becoming more agile and distributed. With these shifts in demand by enterprises and market patterns, managed services are becoming more strategic in nature.

It also states that managed service providers (MSPs) must balance advisory and consulting services to enterprises, as well as capital expenses and operating expenses for contracts that can span several years. At the same time, they need to integrate AI-based services and cognitive technologies into enterprise workloads.

As such, enterprises require expertise in capitalizing their investments to make the most of new technologies.
