Yondr Group, a hyperscale data centre operator, has successfully energised its first campus in Malaysia. This encouraging progress signifies a substantial accomplishment in setting up the site's power infrastructure. The site, which was formally established within two years of Yondr's successful entry into the Malaysian market, is part of a major phase in the specialist's expansion strategy in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

The energised data centre campus, situated in Johor's Sedenak Tech Park, will ultimately provide 300MW of vital IT capacity upon its completion. The coming phases will see the implementation of dark fibre connectivity, plus scaleable utilities and infrastructure. These elements prompt the recognition of Yondr's swift and reliable capabilities in hyperscale data centre development and delivery. With Southeast Asia being home to many of the largest data and cloud sector entities, Yondr envisages the region as a key segment of its APAC expansion strategy.

The energisation milestone follows an Electricity Supply Agreement secured in August 2023 with Tenaga Nasional Berhad, a major multinational electricity firm based in Malaysia. This strategic alliance will supply the Johor campus with a 300MW+ IT load via a 275kV high voltage substation, effectively making the site the largest hyperscale data centre campus in Southeast Asia.

Positioned within the 700-acre Sedenak Tech Park, itself part of the broader 7,290-acre Sedenak Technology Valley, the Yondr development is a neighbour to a diverse range of tech-oriented sectors. These include the manufacturing of advanced electronic and medical devices, green renewable energy, biotech, and food tech sectors, as well as further research and development facilities. Being geographically close to key data centre metros offers valuable interconnectivity routes. This proximity will offer long-term scalability potential regarding power and land requirements for Yondr's customers in Malaysia.

Yondr's progress in the APAC region is a testament to the company's success in establishing a foothold in all major global DC data centre hubs. Current ongoing projects include those in Northern Virginia (USA), several FLAP European locations, and Japan through a strategic partnership with conglomerate Marubeni.
