FYI, this story is more than a year old

Colt Data Center Services has appointed its first director of sustainability as the company pushes forward with its mission to help itself and its customers to become more energy efficient.

Colt Data Center Services (Colt DCS) operates 26 state-of-the-art carrier-neutral data centers across 18 cities in Europe and Asia Pacific.

Scott Balloch has been appointed to the new director of sustainability role. He comes most recently from BT, where he was director of the energy and environmental unit, in which he was responsible for BT's environmental risk and carbon programme, as well as the design and building phases of BT's network and data center accommodation.

We are excited to welcome Scott to the Colt DCS team. His years of experience and expertise within the energy and sustainability industry will be a valuable asset to us as we prioritise our goals towards being more green in our operations,” comments Colt's CEO Niclas Sanfridsson.

At Colt DCS, Balloch will be charged with leading the company's global energy and sustainability strategy. He will also oversee the achievement of the company's overall sustainability goals.

The company says it is working on initiatives such as the establishment of global science-based targets for carbon reduction and taking strong action on renewable power supplies and waste.

Balloch says in a statement, “Hyperscale data centers are a rapidly growing and extremely exciting industry sector.

“For me, now is the key inflection point to drive sustainability and carbon reduction as a key strategic driver in the inevitable growth in this sector. It's the right time to be doing this, the Colt DCS senior leadership team are extremely supportive, and I feel other firms will quickly follow Colt DCS' lead. I really wanted to be at the forefront of that change”.

He says he is thrilled to join the team at an exciting time for sustainability within the company and across its international portfolio of facilities.

“As befits a company that aspires to be the most customer-centric Data Center services provider, Colt DCS will position itself as a strong credible partner in helping its customers achieve their own sustainability goals.” the company says.

Balloch has more than 12 years' experience in energy and sustainability management.

Colt DCS recently launched a 27MW facility in Japan, called Inzai Three. It now has three data center facilities in Japan, which provide a collective total of 50MW of IT power to the country.
