Eaton announces data centre remote monitoring tool upgrade
Fri, 17th Apr 2020
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Power management company Eaton has today announced the launch its overhauled PredictPulse remote monitoring and management service.

The service allows data center and IT managers to remotely monitor the health of their power infrastructure, and respond to critical events.

As the number of people working from home ticks up by the millions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, even essential processes like data center management can be performed remotely with emerging technology.

The new version of the solution offers a redesigned user interface for both browsers and mobile devices.

Real-time data, trends, events, service history and alarms can be accessed from mobile devices, and the update introduces the PulseScore feature to communicate the overall health of a user's uninterruptible power system (UPS).

“Advancements in digital innovation and IoT connectivity have increased users' expectations for secure, real-time access to system data and a robust, intuitive user experience,” says Eaton senior vice president and chief technology officer Michael Regelski.

“We listened to our customers and rebuilt PredictPulse in a way that advances its pioneering functionality and provides users with a new remote monitoring experience.

New features
  • The new PulseScore replaces the previous Relative Performance Index (RPI) and lets users communicate how their devices or locations are performing.

  • Ability to self-manage how co-workers can view site level devices and notifications (email, SMS, phone), with an unlimited number of users and devices.

  • A new notification system, providing SMS text, email and call notifications, as well as notifications for critical alarms and non-critical events.

  • An improved PredictPulse app with access to real-time status updates.

The new additions to PredictPulse apply to Eaton's PredictPulse Insight service, which adds predictive analytics to anticipate the risk of component failure as well as a verification site visit to confirm or replace components.

With this tool, users can mitigate downtime risks associated with battery, capacitor, fan and air filter failures and proactively replace components before they fail, extending the life of investments and addressing potential problems before they happen.

Additionally, with cybersecurity continuing to be a top-of-mind concern for data center and IT managers, PredictPulse offers a robust cybersecurity plan built around outbound-only SMTP email without firewall changes or inbound data.

This means PredictPulse has no remote-control capability, ensuring power infrastructure is never at risk.

PredictPulse is fully compatible with Eaton's Gigabit Network Card (Network-M2), the first UPS connectivity device to meet the UL 2900-1 cybersecurity standard.
