Inspur announces AI edge computing server with NVIDIA GPUs
Thu, 21st Mar 2019
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Inspur released a new artificial intelligence (AI) server for edge computing applications. Featuring two NVIDIA V100 Tensor Core GPUs or six NVIDIA T4 GPUs, the new Inspur NE5250M5 is supposedly ideal for the most compute-intensive AI applications, including autonomous vehicles, smart cities and smart homes. It also can enable 5G edge applications such as the Internet of Things, MEC and NFV, and support optimisation design for the edge's harsh deployment environment.

The NE5250M5 features a telecom server form factor: 2U tall, 430 mm deep and 19 inches wide. This design is about half the depth of the traditional standard server, enabling the NE5250M5 to be installed with telecom servers on the CT data center directly.

The NE5250M5 has multiple mounting options, including wall installations, to accommodate space-constrained edge environments. It supposedly maximises reliability with a ruggedised design that can withstand heat, dust, corrosion, electromagnetism and shock.

In a harsh deployment environment, there's typically no professional operation and maintenance at the edge. To accommodate these challenges, the new server supports remote online maintenance and management.

It also features a self-repair mechanism, where the server automatically returns to its pre-maintenance design, which is convenient for maintenance personnel to quickly maintain at the scene.

Inspur AI - HPC GM Jun Liu says, “This NE5250M5 is the latest example of Inspur's commitment to providing a diverse array of cutting-edge AI computing power—from the cloud data center to edge computing.

“The dynamic nature and rapid expansion of AI workloads require an adaptive and optimised set of hardware, software and services for developers to utilise as they build their own solutions. With the addition of the NE5250M5, the Inspur AI portfolio continues to expand to provide the industry's broadest, deepest selection of AI products and solutions.”

Inspur is supposedly fully engaged in the development of AI infrastructures on four layers, including computing platform, management and performance suite, optimised deep-learning frameworks, and application acceleration to deliver end-to-end, agile, cost-efficient and optimised AI solutions for its industry customers.

IDC and Gartner's worldwide server market tracker for 2018 ranked Inspur No. 3 in the worldwide x86 server market.
