Joao Silva named Pure Storage's VP for EMEA, Latin America operations
Mon, 1st Apr 2024

British tech executive Joao Silva has been appointed Vice President of Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) as well as Latin America operations by Pure Storage. Silva brings to the role over three decades of storage industry experience which include eleven years at Pure Storage and prior positions at Hewlett-Packard, 3PAR, and Hitachi Data Systems.

In his new capacity, Silva will be in charge of all aspects of sales and looks set to play a key role in advancing the next tier of growth in the EMEA and Latin America regions. His extensive first-hand knowledge of meeting customer needs and of leading expanding teams, gained from his previous role as VP EMEA Channel and Business Development at Pure Storage, positions him well to deliver on Pure Storage’s growth strategy for these regions.

This announcement follows a year of significant growth for Pure Storage. As reported by IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Enterprise Storage Systems Tracker, Pure Storage had a growth rate of 25.8% in Q4 of the 2023 calendar year in EMEA, a figure which is particularly impressive given that the overall market grew by only 2.0%. The EMEA External OEM market is also forecasted to expand, reaching a projected total value of US$9.5B by 2028.

Pure Storage's state-of-the-art data storage technologies and services have been instrumental in helping a broad range of customers, including Virgin Media O2, The British Army, THG, Credit Agricole, DFKZ and Weiling, to achieve their business goals.

Upon Silva's appointment, Dan FitzSimons, Chief Revenue Officer at Pure Storage, said, "I’m delighted that Joao is assuming the region’s leadership. His customer-centric approach, deep experience in the technology sector and ability to lead teams will help us deliver our platform and drive business outcomes for more customers in EMEA and Latin America."

Silva himself voiced enthusiasm about his expanded role, stating, "I’m deeply honoured and privileged to lead Pure Storage in EMEA and Latin America. Pure’s highly unified portfolio is helping our customers solve some of the most challenging infrastructure problems of our times. I can’t wait to continue helping our customers modernise their businesses while building the momentum in the region."

Pavel Roland, Senior Research Director at IDC, highlighted the company's impressive growth in recent years, pointing out that "[Pure Storage] has been steadily gaining market share over the past three years." Roland attributed this success to positive customer feedback and the effective addressing by Pure Storage's product portfolio of key concerns such as ease of data management, sustainability requirements, high level of security and scalability.
