New Inventec data center switch accepted by Open Compute Project

Inventec has launched a new 100GbE data center switch, with the Ethernet switch design formally accepted by the Open Compute Project.

The Taiwanese vendor says the new – imaginatively named – D7032Q28B 100Gbps Ethernet switch offers a high performance, cost effective 1RU top-of-rack spine Ethernet switch solution ideal for large data center deployments and service provider applications.

The new offering supports Inventec IN-OS and Pica8 PicOS Network operating systems and is compatible with other Open Source NoS alternatives, including Open Network Linux.

Inventec says the switch also provides customers with an Open Architecture for custom NoS porting and development, with the vendor offering custom development services to customers with special NoS porting and development requirements.

Alex Johnstone, Inventec product line manager, says the company is a champion of open source solutions and recognises the value of active participation in the Open Compute Project.

““The D7032Q28B specification has been contributed to the OCP Networking Project in 2015. Formal acceptance of the D7032Q28B has been granted by OCP as of January 2016,” Johnstone says.

On the technical specs side, the switch, which is due to ship in May, is based on Broadcom StrataXGS Tomahawk Switch Series silicon and supports 32 100GbE QSFP28 interfaces with line-rate L2/L3 performance (3.2Tbps) in a tru PHY-less design.

Both 2.4GHz quad-core x86 and 1.5GHz quad-core PowerPC CPU versions are available.

Redundancy features including hot-swappable (1+1) redundant power supply units and (N+1) fan modules are provided.
