NTT DATA to boost Berlin presence with third data centre campus
Mon, 1st Apr 2024

NTT DATA, a global IT infrastructure and services company, recently disclosed plans to expand its operational presence in Berlin. The enterprise will build and operate a third data centre campus in the German city.

The company's new campus, which spreads across 10.8 hectares, aims to sustain a planned capacity of 96MW of critical IT load through two data centres. Located 30km west of Berlin, in the Brieselang municipality, the construction work is expected to commence in 2025. Berlin is becoming a focal point as a core data centre hub, with favourable geographical location, mounting infrastructure, varied client demand, and strategic proximity to the federal government.

NTT DATA is working tirelessly to keep up with the swelling demand for data usage and computation. This move in Berlin is a part of the company's global expansion efforts, which are forecast to drive data centre growth estimated at $10 billion across key markets worldwide over the period 2023-27.

The company already operates 48 data centres across seven EMEA countries, supporting over 429MW of critical IT load and with plans for an additional 212MW. Besides Berlin, the company recently announced new data center campuses in various international locations including Virginia in the United States, and in Noida and Chennai in India. The company also announced a new data centre campus outside of Paris, encompassing an area of 14.4 hectares.

Doug Adams, Chief Executive Officer and President of NTT Global Data Centers, assured, "Berlin is an important market in our growing portfolio and expansion plans. This new development strengthens our presence and paves the way for further entry into Tier 2 markets, facilitating our sustained growth and leadership in the data centre industry as we continue to meet our clients' needs." Berlin, with its increasing significance as a data economy player, complements the company's existing campuses in the same city.

Adding to this sentiment, Florian Winkler, Chief Executive Officer EMEA and Global Chief Operating Officer at NTT DATA, emphasized "Our focus remains on providing additional capacity by expanding our footprint in both Tier 1 and Tier 2 markets in Europe."

NTT DATA's ongoing objectives reflect a growing commitment to sustainability, certifying their intentions for achieving net-zero emissions from operations and sourcing 100% renewable energy by 2030. This is significant progress towards fulfilling their goals.
