Nutanix & Cloudera bring public cloud scalability to private data centres

Nutanix has teamed up with Cloudera by joining its Certified Technology Program.

This means the Nutanix’s Enterprise Cloud Platform software is now certified to run Cloudera Enterprise workloads.

And for joint customers, this means access to a new and jointly validated solution that allows enterprises to deploy big data solutions in hyper converged environments.

With Nutanix's platform, there's big focus on simplicity and reducing management complexity. Nutanix and Cloudera aim to bring the simplicity associated with public cloud services to the customer’s own private data centre.

According to Nutanix, IT leaders can run big data jobs in private data centres, adding a new level of flexibility to their IT infrastructure  without the sacrifice of scalability and simplicity public cloud is known for.

Nutanix believes that for big data deployments, choosing the right hardware and software is critical to success.

However, it’s often challenging for IT teams balancing ambitious corporate goals with smaller budgets and fewer resources.

The new collaboration hopes to address this challenge by allowing joint customers to run Cloudera workloads on an on-premises, elastic, software-driven infrastructure that can scale on-demand, one node at a time.

As Cloudera workloads can run on the same shared infrastructure as other workloads, IT teams are able to reduce costs and focus their attention on strategic projects, rather than managing multiple silos of underutilised infrastructure, explains Nutanix.

“Today’s IT teams have to ensure their private cloud infrastructure delivers the necessary scalability and performance to handle the newer generation of mode 2 applications,” comments Philippe Marinier, vice president, Business Development at Cloudera.

Nutanix’s Venugopal Pai, vice president of alliances and business development, adds, “Enterprises are rejecting infrastructure options that do not provide cloud-like operating models, and that are incapable of supporting all workloads, including the most demanding big data services."

Pai says “By bringing advanced cloud-like infrastructure to run Cloudera big data projects, joint Nutanix and Cloudera customers can transform from traditional analytics and infrastructure environments to a modernised big data application environment delivered on an enterprise cloud fabric - all via one seamless architecture.”

CSC is a global provider of business, legal, tax, and digital brand services, and a customer of the new Cloudera certified platform.

The company’s director of systems engineering, Shawn Dutton, says “Partnering with Cloudera and Nutanix, CSC successfully shaped the architecture certification process, utilising the big data processing power of Cloudera CDH and Hadoop on the Nutanix platform.”
