Nutanix partners with Avid to bring HCI to the media industry
Fri, 24th Apr 2020
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Nutanix has partnered with Avid Technology in order to develop and deliver a hyperconverged platform for the media and entertainment industry, a proposed industry first.

The Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) software has been certified to run with Avid Media Composer video editing software and the Avid MediaCentral media collaboration platform. As a result, Nutanix becomes the first HCI-powered private cloud solution to be certified for Avid products.

Through the agreement, Nutanix offers a fully integrated solution for any Avid environment, regardless of the hardware platform, with a built-in hypervisor and one-click management.

Nutanix cloud software has been designed to enable customers to increase cross-channel engagement. When it comes to the media and entertainment industry, the offering is said to better enable content creators, drive operating efficiency, and improve decision-making that's uniform across all functions and locations.

Avid delivers a media platform that connects content creation with collaboration, asset protection, distribution, and consumption. Avid's customer community uses the company's tools and workflow solutions to create, distribute, and monetise media globally.

The partnership is designed to empower the media and entertainment industry with HCI, bringing resources and support tiered virtualisation models and multiple management interfaces as well as complex design.

Specifically, Nutanix offers a single platform for applications, greater operational efficiency and integration, and more options for storing and securing digital content.

A single, integration platform supports application needs across customers' workflows - from virtual desktops, to asset management, to transcoding to analytics, Nutanix states.

To improve operational efficiency, Nutanix states it reduces IT complexity and simplifies management, freeing up teams to focus on innovation and content delivery.

For security, this is designed in Nutanix's HCI platform to ensure digital assets are secured without additional effort and in a way that users retain access to media assets.

Avid chief technology officer Tim Claman says, “Media companies are facing a wide range of challenges today to ensure post production teams have immediate access to workflows and can collaborate with teams across the globe to accelerate the pace of production.

“Nutanix helps deliver these capabilities in a user-friendly solution that is not only scalable and powerful but also easy to deploy and maintain to deliver a simplified approach to adopting virtualisation and hybrid cloud models.

Nutanix chief commercial officer Tarkan Maner says, “Customers in the media and entertainment industry are looking for an IT infrastructure that enables increased customer engagement and faster content delivery, and the joint solution between Avid and Nutanix offers just that.

“This collaboration offers companies a multi-cloud solution to easily support business-critical apps in the industry while providing a platform that is simple, flexible, and powerful.
