Silicon Valley start up Rubrik gains momentum with Datos IO acquisition

07 Feb 2018

Silicon Valley start up Rubrik has entered into a deal to acquire Datos IO, specialists in backup and recovery for NoSQL databases and big data file systems.

The deal is another step towards Rubrik’s goal of becoming the premier cloud platform for enterprises to orchestrate application data across the data center and public cloud.

Following the acquisition, the duo will combine product portfolios and move forward as one company unified by a common vision of building a control plane that can automate, orchestrate, and secure data anywhere.

However, Datos IO will continue to be led by co-founder and CEO Tarun Thakur as a new business unit called Rubrik Datos IO under the Rubrik umbrella. Thakur will report to Rubrik CEO Bipul Sinha.

Datos IO brings its flagship platform RecoverX to the deal, a solution that offers comprehensive data management for modern cloud applications built on modern NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, Couchbase, Amazon DynamoDB) and big data file systems (Cloudera, Hortonworks).

Datos IO has filed 22 patents with foundational innovations in application-aware data management for enterprise use cases of backup and recovery, test/dev refresh, in-place analytics, and cloud mobility.

“We founded Datos IO with a vision of building next-generation data management platform for cloud-native data sources to ensure elasticity, orchestration, and data mobility,” comments Thakur.

“Datos IO delivers critical backup and recovery capabilities for cloud-native applications and databases. Rubrik and Datos IO share a common vision of cloud data management and are committed to helping customers on their digital transformation journey.”

Sinha is excited about the acquisition, commenting, “As enterprises adopt NoSQL cloud databases to undertake digital transformation and AI initiatives, the need to manage and recover applications and data is becoming top of mind.”

“We are excited to have Datos IO join the Rubrik family to accelerate innovation in how enterprises manage and recover this modern application stack."
